Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich believes the Iranian regime is “very close to breaking” from tough economic sanctions.
Gingrich made his comments during a Tuesday interview on television’s “Fox & Friends.”
"The sanctions are really biting and, month by month, their economy is getting worse and people are getting more and more unhappy,” he said. “I think they're lashing out desperately, trying to somehow change the circumstance – either by getting us to back off or, frankly, get us to attack them.
“I think President (Donald) Trump was very wise two weeks ago. Be calm, be patient. Just continue to increase the pressure economically and I think they're very close to breaking. I think this is a very shaky regime.
“If the Iranians really go crazy, we obviously will respond militarily. And we can obviously respond with enormous power. But I think as long as they’re just being irritants, we’re better off to keep increasing the sanctions and to keep squeezing down the Iranian dictatorship.”
