A reality TV star dubbed the "Russian Paris Hilton," who is running for president against Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin, says she has been invited to the national prayer breakfast in Washington next month, according to reports
Ksenia Sobchak, 36, was asked to attend the Feb. 1 Congressional breakfast, her press secretary told Russian news agency Interfax, the Daily Mail of London reported. President Donald Trump also is expected to come to the breakfast.
Sobchak, is slated to visit the United States for three days to give a series of speeches, but she has not confirmed her attendance at the breakfast. Several Russian dignitaries are expected to attend the prayer breakfast.
The former model and TV star shook up Russia's political scene in October when she announced she would challenge Putin. She is a frequent critic of the Russian government and has said it is time for a new face at the Kremlin. Her U.S. visit comes weeks before Russia's March presidential election.
Sobchak is the daughter of former Russian mayor — and Putin mentor — Anatoly Sobchak. She is considered a longshot candidate. Dissident Russian leader Alexei Navalny was expected to challenge Putin, but election officials have banned him from the race because he was once convicted of fraud.
