Giuliani: No Surprise Americans Say US Has Lost World Standing

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani isn't surprised by a Pew poll that shows most Americans think the country has lost its standing in the world.

Giuliani, appearing Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren," said the poll numbers are the result of several years of feckless foreign policy.

It began, he said, with resetting our relationship with Russia at the beginning of President Barack Obama's first term.

"They've reset it, and it's much worse," he said, noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin had to save the day after Obama's "red line" in Syria was crossed multiple times yet Obama appeared afraid to take action.

"Our negotiations with Iran would be very different if Iran were afraid of us," he told Van Susteren.

Giuliani also pointed to the growing confrontation between China and U.S. ally Japan over airspace rights.

Obama entered office vowing to improve the United States' reputation in the world, Giuliani said, but added, "I can't find a place where things have gotten better since President Obama has gotten in office."

"In Europe, they're worried that we're spying on them. In South America, they feel we're not paying attention to them. In the Middle East, our major allies – Saudi Arabia, Israel, Emirates – think we're going in the wrong direction."
