Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel says her uncle Mitt Romney’s attack on President Donald Trump does nothing but help Democrats.
She made her remarks Thursday on “Fox & Friends.”
“I think any time Republicans are critical of this president, it becomes a media feeding frenzy,” she said. “They love the anti-Trump narrative within our own party. And I think there are other things we can talk about as Republicans. We can talk about [Sen. Chuck] Schumer and [Rep. Nancy] Pelosi being unwilling to open the government because of border security.
“There are a lot of things we can take on together on Republicans and Republican voters don’t want to see us infighting. And that’s what I see as party chair.”
She maintained Republican voters are seeking a unified message from the party.
“I talk to people in our party and they say to me all the time: ‘We want Republicans to stick together. We want them to support this president. He’s doing great things for this country,'" she said.
Romney, the incoming senator from Utah, wrote a scathing attack on Trump in The Washington Post. McDaniel had fired back at him in a tweet.
However, she noted on "Fox & Friends" there is no hard feelings when it comes to her uncle, who gave her a heads-up about the column.
“Well, I love my uncle," she said. "And my tweet yesterday had nothing to do with family. I would have done this to any freshman incoming senator.”
