Florida lawmakers have agreed to set aside $3.8 million for a plane for Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Tampa Bay Times is reporting.
The funding came three months after DeSantis’ current plane had its air masks drop and was forced to make an emergency landing, the newspaper said.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel had reported earlier this year DeSantis had been using an upgraded King Air aircraft that law enforcement officials had seized in a drug bust.
DeSantis’ predecessor, Rick Scott, is a multimillionaire and had used his own plane to travel while governor.
The funding for the new plane also will include the cost of pilots and maintenance staff.
“This is the third largest state in the country,” Republican State Sen. Jeff Brandes said. “The governor needs to get around effectively.”
