Support for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Republican presidential primary has fallen in Utah, where a new poll shows the governor more than two dozen points behind the front-runner for the nomination, former President Donald Trump.
In a poll of Utah Republican voters, Noble Predictive Insights found that DeSantis remains in second place among the various GOP presidential candidates, above former Vice President Mike Pence but below Trump:
- Trump: 48%
- DeSantis: 18%
- Pence: 10%
- Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy: 6%
- Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley: 3%
- South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott: 3%
- Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: 2%
- Miami Mayor Francis Suarez: 0%
- Radio host Larry Elder: 0%
- Someone else/none of these candidates: 10%
“Our data shows that even in Utah — once a bastion of conservative resistance to Trump — the former President is gaining ground. DeSantis has struggled to find a compelling message or excite the grassroots, and many Republicans rallied to Trump in the aftermath of his indictments. There’s still time for this Primary to shift, but Trump’s position has clearly improved,” NPI Chief of Research David Byler said in a statement.
A previous poll of the state from the Hinckley Institute of Politics and Deseret News showed a much closer race between Trump and DeSantis, with the governor garnering 24% of Utah Republicans' support in a poll conducted at the end of June, compared to Trump’s 29% at the time.
For this survey, NPI polled 301 registered Republicans in Utah from July 7-18, 2023. The margin of error was +/- 5.65 percentage points.
