The Capital Research Center issued a new report Wednesday debunking the myth that the GOP is the party of the 1 percent — big money went to Democrats at a rate of 3-to-1.
The CRC's report of the 2013-14 campaign cycle — the most recent with complete data — found that Democrats were on the receiving end of $96 million from the "SuperZips" — zip codes that rank highest in terms of education and income of New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and D.C.
Republicans got $30 million.
"While the Republican Party is often portrayed as the party of the 1 percent, electoral research doesn't bear it out," says CRC President Scott Walter.
"A closer look at political contributions reveals that Democrats aren't the party of the little guy and Republicans by no means 'own' the dreaded 1 percent."
