By    |   Friday, 16 August 2024 01:23 PM EDT

Kamala Harris has chipped away at Donald Trump's lead in the 2024 presidential race, according to a Rasmussen survey released Friday.

Trump, the GOP nominee, leads Harris in a two-way matchup among likely U.S. voters, 49% -45%, compared to last week when he led by 5 points, 49% -44%.

When other candidates are added to the lineup, including Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein, Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver, and independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornell West, Trump leads Harris, 48% -44%.

The survey of 1,885 likely U.S. voters, conducted on Aug. 8 and 11-14, also found:

  • Harris has a 1-point lead among voters under 40 and has narrowed Trump's advantage among those 65 and older.
  • Trump leads by a wider margin among men (50% to Harris' 44%) than among female voters (49% to Harris' 47%).
  • In terms of handling policy toward the Middle East, 53% of voters trust Trump more and 40% trust Harris more.
  • 42% view Tim Walz favorably, including 27% with a very favorable impression.

The poll has a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points.
