Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has joined ABC News as a contributor, the network announced on Sunday during a brief on-air segment.
Emanuel, a Democrat, was mayor of the Windy City from 2011 to 2019. He decided not to run for reelection due to a controversy over his handling of the killing of an African American teenager, for which a police officer was convicted of second-degree murder, according to The Hill.
Before becoming Chicago mayor, Emanuel served as White House chief of staff under then-President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2010. He was also a member of Congress from 2003 to 2009.
Emanuel has also accepted positions as a contributing editor to The Atlantic and has joined the investment banking firm Centerview Partners.
Since leaving office, Emanuel had also reportedly been in negotiations with MSNBC and CNN to join as a contributor.
