President Donald Trump and North Korea Chairman Kim Jong Un likely will meet for a third summit, even though the first two tries at negotiating an agreement to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula "didn't get as far as the world is demanding," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Friday.

Trump and Kim left their last summit, in Hanoi, Vietnam, with a "deeper understanding of each other," Pompeo told "CBS This Morning." "The positions that the two sides had, the two leaders were able to make progress in that respect."

In February, the meeting abruptly ended after North Korea wanted the United States to stop all sanctions in exchange for shuttering one of its nuclear sites.

Pompeo said Friday the United States knew negotiations would take some time, but the administration is still determined to make a deal with North Korea and is "convinced the North Koreans are determined as well" to denuclearize.

He added that the Trump administration is "incredibly clear" that sanctions on North Korea will "not be lifted until our ultimate objective is achieved."

South Korean President Moon Jae-in plans to visit the White House next week, where he will meet with Pompeo and Trump.

Pompeo Friday also discussed the continued security threats concerning China, noting that a Chinese woman carrying a device with computer malware at Trump's Palm Beach estate shows the threat China poses and the efforts that have been made for breaches.

The administration is "determined to push back" against China's theft of intellectual property, with the matter under discussions during trade negotiations with China this week, said Pompeo.
