Top House Democrat Nancy Pelosi has been spotted vacationing in Hawaii while the partial government shutdown drags on and heads toward its second week.
She was first spotted Thursday at the Fairmont Orchid resort, which charges $899 per night for a standard room and up to $4,899 for the presidential suite, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
Fox News also confirmed her presence there Friday morning.
The resort, on Hawaii's main island, offers an "authentic Big Island vacation experience, surrounded by 32 oceanfront acres of lush tropical gardens, cascading waterfalls and a tranquil white sand beach and lagoon. From sunrise canoe voyages to sunset torch lighting ceremonies, an incredible array of outdoor adventures is yours to explore," according its website.
Mick Mulvaney, the incoming acting White House chief of staff, blamed Pelosi Friday for allowing the shutdown to continue.
He told Fox News Channel's "Fox and Friends" that there were no talks with Democrats on ending the shutdown because "they left town."
He suggested that Pelosi was shying away from any deal because "she can not be seen by her party as being weak on negotiating with Donald Trump."
The Free Beacon report notes that President Donald Trump canceled his holiday trip to Florida and has been conducting the nation's business, saying he is "waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal."
