Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., has accused special counsel Robert Mueller of making his public statement to “light the fuse for impeachment” proceedings against President Donald Trump.

"What was that press conference all about yesterday? It was only about one thing and that was to light the fuse for impeachment because these guys are in big trouble," Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, told Fox News on Friday.
Mueller said in his public remarks that he never considered charging Trump with a crime because Justice Department policy prohibits indicting a sitting president, but he did outline 10 possible incidents of obstruction.

Nunes said on Friday that Mueller could have finished his investigation, which took almost two years, in just two days if not for Justice Department policy.

"He was so blatantly dishonest yesterday that he says that the Office of Legal Counsel says you can't indict a sitting president," the congressman said. "Well, he should have been done after day two."

He added that the probe was tarnished by “Clinton dirt,” referring to Trump’s 2016 opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Mueller “has no Russians, except for the Fusion [GPS] and Clinton Russians, and possibly the dirty cops, the FBI's Russians. Those are the only Russians that he has that show connections to the Trump campaign," Nunes said, adding that "clearly, the Clinton operation is heavily working with Russians or Russian disinformation. He didn't take time to look into any of that.”
