The National Rifle Association leadership crisis has worsened over the group’s spending controversy, with three more prominent members of the NRA resigning their positions, CNN reported on Tuesday.
Two NRA board member who were prominent public faces for the association, country music singer Craig Morgan and NASCAR team owner Richard Childress, have both stepped down.
Also leaving the organization is David Lehman, the deputy executive director and general counsel at the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, who in addition was filling the role of the group’s top lobbyist.
Several other top officials have left the NRA over the past few months as the organization has been rocked amid the controversy over spending and the forced resignation of former NRA President Oliver North.
Just last week, professional sport shooter Julie Golob announced she is quitting the NRA board, and two other members also resigned after raising concerns about reports of lavish spending and mismanagement by NRA Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre, The Washington Post reported.
In addition to its other troubles, the NRA is still involved in a lawsuit with New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and scrutiny of the association also has increased on Capitol Hill, with Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden looking into the organization's finances and connections to Russia.
