Obama Tells Trump: NKorea Is Top Threat to US

The White House has warned President-elect Donald Trump's transition team that North Korea poses the greatest threat to the country and the incoming administration, The Wall Street Journal reported.

President Obama's hands-off approach to engage leader Kim Jong Un has coincided with North Korea's hands-on approach to steadfastly advancing its nuclear ambitions, the Journal reported.

A Trump administration will need to be more aggressive in dealing with Jong Un, former CIA Director Michael Hayden wrote.

"The new administration should send a clear message to North Korea and China: [a North Korea with nuclear weapons] is a deal breaker," Park In Kook, a former South Korean ambassador to the United Nations, told the WSJ.

North Korea has conducted 5 weapons tests, the most recent coming in September, and has grown its nuclear arsenal to up to 40 bombs.

According to Business Insider, though there are a few tacks for the Trump administration to take, it will likely need to enlist cooperation from China to move forward.
