The National Rifle Association Tuesday announced it has endorsed Democrat Chris Koster for Missouri governor over Republican rival Eric Greitens, according to Politico.
"Chris Koster has never wavered from his Second Amendment beliefs. For over 17 years, he has fought to preserve the constitutional rights of law-abiding Missourians," NRA-Political Victory Fund chairman Chris W. Cox, said in a statement.
"The NRA is proud to endorse Chris Koster and we urge Missouri's gun owners and sportsmen to get out this November and vote to elect a governor with a proven record of fighting to preserve the Second Amendment."
According to KY3, Koster earned the "A" rating from the NRA for what the group calls a "commitment to the Second Amendment." The NRA also praised his work as Missouri's attorney general.
Greitens is a former Navy SEAL officer and former Democrat. He shot a gun and caused an explosion in his most attention-grabbing campaign ad, declaring that he would "take dead aim at politics as usual." In another ad, he shot a machine gun and urged voters, "Let's take back Missouri."
The organization also announced endorsements for Republican lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Mike Parson, Republican attorney general candidate Josh Hawley, Republican secretary of State candidate Jay Ashcroft, and Republican state treasurer candidate Eric Schmitt.
