A new group has been formed in order to attack Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell ahead of his Kentucky re-election bid in the November elections, Axios reported on Tuesday.
The group, called Fix Our Senate, intends to put out research on McConnell demonstrating that he has a major responsibility for what many consider are the country’s most pressing problems, including the intensely partisan atmosphere, inability to pass much needed legislation on crucial issues, rising drug prices and a continuing wealth inequality.
According to the average of polls compiled by Real Clear Politics, McConnell is very unpopular, with a favorability rating of only 29.8%
Fix Our Senate director Joshua Karp, who is a Democratic strategist, made a point of this to Axios, saying the Kentucky senator “is already the least popular politician in America - now, we’re going to shine a light on McConnell and every ally who supports him."
The group, which has refused to disclose its budget, is setting itself up so that the identities of donors are not publicly available.
Axios speculated that the main purpose of the group may not be so much defeating McConnell in the November election but more broadly convincing Americans to tie together negative feelings about him with Republican candidates and policies in general.
