Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg is shelling out millions of dollars to slam four state attorneys general who are suing the Obama administration over new laws regulating carbon emissions from power plants.
The New York Times reports the billionaire businessman is paying in excess of more than $10 million for ads ripping into Chris Koster of Missouri, Pam Bondi of Florida, Bill Schuete of Michigan and Brad Schimel of Wisconsin.
The newspaper says Bloomberg's initiative amounts to a defense of the White House over its Clean Power Plan.
"These four attorneys general are trying to stop the president from doing something that I think is terribly important," Mr. Bloomberg told The Times' Maggie Haberman. "I want the public to know what they're doing. It's very bad for everybody."
Two of the ads say the attorneys general have accepted donations from "polluters" and bowed to special interests.
Koster — who is running for governor of Missouri next year and is the only Democrat of Bloomberg's four targets — is portrayed in one ad as "an opponent of President Obama's environmental agenda" and someone "not doing the right thing by Missouri's families," The Times says.
