Rubio: White House Must Release Secret Email Info

By    |   Tuesday, 04 June 2013 11:33 AM EDT

The White House needs to come clean about what's in emails sent by top Obama administration officials from secret accounts, Sen. Marco Rubio says.

The Associated Press revealed the clandestine accounts Tuesday, including one for Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

"This administration should take the lead in being forthcoming about all of his," Rubio told the "Fox and Friends" program Tuesday.

"I would like to see them be more proactive about it," added the Florida Republican. "Get it all out there. Get it all out there now."

The AP could not glean much detail about the secret accounts. Most departments refused to give the news service lists of political appointees' email addresses, which the AP requested under the Freedom of Information Act more than three months ago. The Labor Department originally said the service would have to pay more than $1 million for its email addresses.

"If there's nothing to hide, and in fact what they're claiming is that this was incompetence, not that this was deliberate, then get all the information out there quickly and let's dispose of this once and for all,” Rubio said.
