Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, who had been sentenced to four years in prison, will be transferred from a Pennsylvania minimum security facility to New York City’s Rikers Island this week, Fox News reports.
Citing a source close to Manafort, the report says Manafort will be held in solitary confinement for his own protection at Rikers.
Rikers Island has temporarily housed some of the most high-profile criminals in the city, including Mark David Chapman, who murdered John Lennon.
Manafort, who was sentenced earlier this year for tax and bank fraud relating to his work advising Ukrainian politicians, is being moved on the orders of a New York State judge. New York City District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr., had requested the transfer.
Manafort’s conviction had made him the first campaign associate of President Donald Trump to be found guilty by a jury as part of Robert Mueller’s probe, Fox News noted. Manafort is still awaiting sentencing in another case.
