The CEO of Macy's said Friday the company is "prepared" for any additional tariffs that are imposed on its products as part of the United States' trade spat with China.
Jeff Gennette spoke with CNBC and noted that other tariffs this year have not impacted the retail giant all that much.
"The first two tranches of tariffs have had very limited effects so far on the products we're offering," Gennette said. "We will see if the next tranche of tariffs goes through in January, and we are prepared and ready for that."
President Donald Trump and his administration are trying to even the global trading field, which has resulted in a mild trade war between the U.S. and China. Both countries have placed tariffs on each other's goods as negotiations continue.
A third round of tariffs could come after the new year, which Gennette said may include cotton-based products like clothing.
"At the end of the day, we want to make sure that whatever changes are coming, the consumer is not effected by this," Gennette said.
