Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said the United States needs to retaliate hard after Iran launched missile attacks into Israel on Tuesday.
Iran fired a salvo of ballistic missiles at Israel in retaliation for Israel's campaign against Tehran's Hezbollah allies in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. Alarms sounded across Israel and explosions could be heard in Jerusalem and the Jordan River valley after Israelis piled into bomb shelters.
The Israeli military said Iran fired missiles and it ordered residents to remain close to bomb shelters as air raid sirens sounded across the country.
"This is a moment of choosing for the free world regarding Iran," Graham said in a statement. "The Ayatollah and Iranian regime are religious Nazis who want to destroy the state of Israel — their words, not mine. They want to purify Islam and attack the United States."
Israel and the United States have warned there would be severe consequences in the event of an attack on Israel from Iran.
Graham said the attack against Israel was a breaking point.
"I would urge the Biden Administration to coordinate an overwhelming response with Israel, starting with Iran’s ability to refine oil," Graham said. "These oil refineries need to be hit and hit hard because that is the source of cash for the regime to perpetrate their terror."
"The only thing the Iranian regime understands is strength," Graham added. "Now is the time to show unified resolve against Iran, the largest state sponsor of terrorism. We need decisive action, not just statements."
