Distancing himself from Roger Stone and Paul Manafort, who he calls "serial liars," Corey Lewandowski said Wednesday morning he would trust special counsel Robert Mueller over the two former members of the Trump campaign.
"I don't know Mueller, but he seems to be a man of character, and I hope he has a truthful and honest investigation," Lewandowski told CNN's "New Day."
Lewandowski, who was fired as Trump campaign manager in 2016 before the Republican National Convention as Paul Manafort took over as Trump campaign chairman, told host John Berman he does not trust Manafort's dirty political consulting deals.
"Between the two, if I had to choose, I am going to pick Bob [Mueller]," said Lewandowski, who has recently co-authored the book "Trump's Enemies: How the Deep State Is Undermining the Presidency."
Lewandowski repeated his hope Mueller's report on 2016 election meddling and any potential Trump campaign involvement is revealed in full to the American people, so they can draw their own political conclusions.
"When that investigation comes out, I hope it's made public," Lewandowski said Wednesday, admitting he had not talked to President Donald Trump about his position on it.
". . . If the report comes out, the entire thing should be given to the American people. And it should show, and I hope Bob Mueller does this, what also took place on the other side of the aisle."
Like Manafort, Lewandowski does not trust Stone, who he had fired Roger Stone from the Trump campaign in 2015.
"[Stone] said he met with Julian Assange," Lewandowski told CNN. "This is what he wrote in emails. This is his own words – only when pressed on them, did he say, 'Well, what I said and what I did were actually two separate things, so I don't know.'
"But if you take Roger at his own words, which is difficult to do, because most of the time he is lying when he's talking, I don't know what the truth is."
