President Donald Trump is keeping "all options" open for getting Congress to approve funding for border security, presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway said Friday, after being asked if there could be a government shutdown.
"One thing he has made clear for three-and-a-half years now, that helped him win the presidency, is that we're a sovereign nation in need of physical borders," Conway told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "Congress needs to act with wall funding, but Congress also needs to act on immigration."
There have been just a "couple of judges" who have been responsible for immigration law decisions for the whole county, she added, while Congress failed to meet Trump's "very modest demand" on entering the immigration lottery system and chain migration, coming up with a deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, as well as the wall.
"We see day in and day out that people are pouring over the borders," said Conway. "The amount of drugs that are coming through our southern border is unbelievable"
Meanwhile, Trump will be focusing on keeping the economy growing, which drew voters during the recent midterm elections," said Conway.
"What he's very focused on is continuing to give relief to people who work hard," said Conway. "Look at this success at the first tax cut for middle class, doubling the child care tax...Congress needs to act. They can't just rely upon [Trump]."
