West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, a Republican, said Wednesday that Virginians who are unhappy about the gun control bills that are headed to a vote in the state House should move to West Virginia.

"I don't really want to meddle, nor will I meddle, with what's going on in Virginia, but if you're unhappy with where you're at, and West Virginia is going like West Virginia is going, we want you to come," Justice told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday.

"We absolutely want you to know — and beyond Virginia, we want people to know — that West Virginia is a diamond in the rough that everybody [will] miss," he said.

Justice, who is an avid hunter, added, "all of us want safety, but it's not the guns."

Justice said Tuesday that Virginia counties that border his state should consider joining West Virginia.

"If you're not truly happy where you are, we stand with open arms to take you from Virginia or anywhere where you may be," the governor said, according to USA Today. "We stand strongly behind the Second Amendment, and we stand strongly for the unborn."

West Virginia actually seceded from Virginia in 1861, after the state joined the Confederacy, and joined the Union as a separate state in 1863, according to the African-American Registry
