The Democratic donors to Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., are now calling for their money back after he has switched parties, BuzzFeed News reported.

Van Drew, who hosted President Donald Trump in south New Jersey GOP campaign rally Tuesday night, left the Democratic Party over the House Democrats' impeachment of Trump, and among those who have asked for their donations back are, per the report:

  • House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md.
  • Reps. Kathleen Rice, D-N.Y.
  • Rep. Bill Foster, D-Ill.
  • Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif.
  • Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
  • House Majority PAC.

"We have not received the $2,500 refund we requested and that speaks to the lack of integrity Jeff Van Drew has displayed throughout this entire episode, in which Jeff Van Drew has repeatedly told his supporters one thing before doing another," House Majority PAC spokeswoman Caitlin Legacki told BuzzFeed News.

"Sadly, it is not surprising that Jeff Van Drew continues to campaign as a Republican while using money raised by and for Democrats to fuel his campaign. We would still like our money back."

According to the Federal Election Commission, more than a dozen members of Congress and political action committees donated to Van Drew's 2020 re-election.

"We did contribute to Van Drew last quarter and we have requested the money back," Lieu's spokesman told BuzzFeed News. "We have not heard back from his campaign yet."

Estimations are more than $30,000 in Democratic donations are still unreturned, according to the report.

"Congressman Van Drew betrayed his donors, his colleagues, and the New Jersey nurses and school teachers who sent him their hard-earned dollars," DCCC Executive Director Lucinda Guinn told BuzzFeed News in a statement.

"We'll continue working with elected officials and small donors across the country to help them recoup the money they gave to Van Drew when he still voted with Planned Parenthood 100% of the time and was publicly pledging to stay a Democrat."
