A GoFundMe campaign started for the Indiana middle school teacher who swatted a gun out of a seventh grader’s hand and tackled him to the ground has raised $55,000, The Hill reports.
Noblesville West Middle School teacher Jason Seaman threw a basketball at the shooter and ran toward the bullets as screaming students ran for cover around 9 a.m. Friday.
Seaman was shot three times and underwent surgery and Ella Whistler, 13, was shot multiple times and was in critical condition. The suspected gunman was arrested.
“His actions saved the lives of many kids that were present in his class today. He put his life on the line for their protection,” the fundraising page reads. “The funds will be going to the family for any personal expenses that have incurred due to the event.”
The attack happened a week after an attack at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas, that killed eight students and two teachers.
A GoFundMe for the student who was shot has raised more than $28,000 of a $30,000 goal. Seaman will address the public on Monday at the school and will be honored directly after the press conference.
