House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., sent a letter to the University of Pennsylvania asking for detailed lists of all those who have had access to the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C, where classified documents from the Obama administration were discovered in President Joe Biden's office, the Washington Examiner reported on Wednesday.
He said in the letter that "Biden’s pattern of mishandling classified documents is alarming. The committee is concerned about who had access to these documents given the Biden family’s financial connections to foreign actors and companies. The committee requests documents and information related to foreign influence at UPenn and the Penn Biden Center."
Comer's efforts to obtain visitor logs from Biden's Wilmington, Delaware, home, where additional classified documents were found in the garage, were stymied when White House lawyers said no such records exist. The documents, which Biden apparently obtained when he served as vice president, allegedly deal with foreign influence or defense.
Comer wrote that "the American people deserve to know whether the Chinese Communist Party, through Chinese companies, influenced potential Biden Administration policies with large, anonymous donations to UPenn and the Penn Biden Center."
The White House and top Democrats have accused Republicans of hypocrisy for criticizing Biden over his classified documents compared to their reaction to former President Donald Trump's documents discovered during an FBI raid in August at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
"House Republicans have no credibility," White House spokesman Ian Sams said to reporters earlier this week. "Their demands should be met with skepticism, and they should face questions themselves about why they are politicizing this issue and admitting they actually do not care about the underlying classified material."
