The International Olympic Committee delivered a reprimand and the Anti-Defamation League was among groups who issued statements regarding hostilities toward Israeli athletes at the Olympic games in Rio, The Washington Times reported.
A member of the Lebanese delegation blocked Israelis from boarding a bus taking athletes to the opening ceremonies, and a Saudi judo athlete forfeited a match reportedly to avoid competing against an Israeli.
The IOC reprimanded the Lebanese delegation for the incident, one which they didn't deny, but instead bragged about.
"I had to physically stand at the door and block (Israel's trainer) and the rest of the delegation from boarding, knowing that some were trying to force their way through and were looking for trouble," said Saleem al-Haj Nacoula, the head of Lebanon's delegation, according to the Times' story.
"Shocking but not surprisingly, the Lebanese and Saudi delegations obviously have the wrong idea about the Olympic Games," Roz Rothstein, CEO of the pro-Israel group Stand With Us, said in a statement, reported the Times.
Though the Saudi team denied Joud Fahmy forfeited her match because of her Israeli opponent, claiming instead she was too injured to fight, it's common for Muslim and Arab athletes to avoid competing against Israelis in international competition, the Times reported.
"These days, anti-Israel violence at the Olympics as been replaced by politics, with representatives from countries hostile to Israel going to great lengths to avoid any interaction with Israeli athletes," the Anti-Defamation League said in a statement.
