Europe is "very united" with the United States in opposing Iran having a nuclear weapon, but how to keep that from happening is a matter of disagreement and Iran could face difficulty with European nations if it violates the Iran nuclear agreement, U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell said Tuesday.

"I will say to the Iranians, one way to burn the Europeans on diplomatic efforts is to go back on your words on the JCPOA,"  Grenell told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

His comments come after Iran announced Monday it's amassed more low-enriched uranium that was permitted under the 2015 deal and drew a warning from President Donald Trump that Tehran was "playing with fire."

The announcement was the first major step taken by Iran after the United States pulled out of the accord more than a year ago. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, however, denied the move violates the nuclear deal. The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed in Vienna that Tehran had breached the limit.

Also on Tuesday, Grenell discussed calls from Trump for NATO member states to pay their fair share, saying that the allies are starting to pay up.

"Since 2016, $41 billion has been increased from NATO allies," said Grenell. "That is $100 billion promised. That increase is directly the result of President Trump and his pushing and his focus."
