New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is an "elitist" who is "just trying to run out the clock" until the presidential election.
Christie made the comments during an appearance on Fox News' "The Kelly File."
Christie addressed Clinton's remark about half of Trump's followers being "a basket of deplorables," saying, "She's a Washington, D.C. elitist who believes anyone else is beneath her."
Christie said that the reason Clinton said the "deplorables" comment is that, "She believes it."
Host Megyn Kelly pointed out that Trump accused Clinton of running a hate-filled campaign, and Clinton has accused him of the same thing.
"That's been her allegation about him all along," Kelly said.
About Clinton's remarks, Trump said, "If Hillary Clinton will not retract her comments in full, I don't see how she can credibly campaign any further."
Christie is a surrogate for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. He made his own run for the Republican nomination, but dropped out of the race in February, according to NPR.
"What I'm trying to do is to make sure the nominee for president of the United States of my party is the best possible nominee he can be and make sure Hillary Clinton doesn't get into the White House," Christie said about why he is supporting Trump. "I think I'm doing the right thing."
