A little more than one third of Americans said in a new survey the Trump administration has excellent or good ethical standards, the lowest rating in the poll's 35-year history.
Key results in the Gallup poll that was released Thursday:
- 37 percent said the Trump administration has excellent or good ethical standards.
- 59 percent said the Trump administration has not good or poor ethical standards.
- 71 percent of Republicans said the Trump administration has excellent or good ethics, while just 9 percent of Democrats said so.
The 37 percent figure is the lowest in the history of this particular poll, which began in 1983 during the Reagan administration. The data shows that most of the time, administrations had an excellent or good ethical rating of at least 50 percent. The one exception was in 1994, when former President Bill Clinton scored a 43 percent number. That rose to 57 percent less than two months later.
Former President George W. Bush scored the highest rating in the poll history, 74 percent, in 2002.
A Rasmussen poll, meanwhile, gave Trump a 51 percent approval rating at the beginning of May.
