Florida AG Bondi: FBI's Wray 'Has a Lot of Explaining to Do'

Stopping just short of echoing Gov. Rick Scott's, R-Fla., call for FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign over failing to act on tips the Florida shooter planned to commit mass murder, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said Wray "has a lot of explaining to do."

"The men and women of the FBI report to him, and we need to find out exactly what happened that could have saved 17 lives and many, many injuries and thousands of kids who will be traumatized for the rest of their lives," Bondi told Fox News' "The Story" with Martha MacCallum before meeting the president later Friday night.

Bondi was on the show to encourage kids who see something on social media to say something.

"Parents, kids, do not be afraid to call it in," Bondi stressed, bringing the call to action amid protests that government officials failed to act to protect Americans. "We would rather you be wrong 100 percent of the time and report it.

"I will tell you from here on out, everything you report will be followed up on by law enforcement – not only by local law enforcement but by the FBI. I was on the phone last night with the FBI, this morning I was on the phone with them, police last night, because nothing now is a hoax anymore.

"People are online and it's a sick world in which we live in now. . . . Even if you think it's a hoax, call it in. I would rather you be wrong 100 percent of the time and call it in, and let us save some lives."

Bondi, who has known President Donald Trump from Mar-a-Lago in Florida, has talked to the president right after the shootings and met with him Friday night.

"All he kept asking about the families and victims and how they are doing," Bondi said. "He deeply cares.

"I personally believe we do need more security in our schools. Martha, we live in a different world now than when you and I grew up. It's different. And social media makes things so much easier to occur. And we have to have more school security."
