President Donald Trump visited a South Florida hospital treating Florida's school shooting victims to pay "respects" to the medical staff and lend support to the victims being treated there, according to reports.

Air Force One landed in West Palm Beach International Airport just before 5:30 p.m. ET, and the president, first lady Melania Trump, White House chief of staff John Kelly and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., headed to visit Broward Health North in nearby Pompano Beach. The alleged shooter in the attack, Nikolas Cruz, was also treated at the same hospital, according to CNN.

After the hospital visit, the contingent was going to meet law enforcement officials of the Broward County Sheriff's office, "whose bravery helped save lives," the White House stated, per The Hill.

President Donald tweeted the announcement of his visit earlier Friday.

The teen gunman killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which is west of the Pompano Beach hospital in northwest Broward County.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
