The FBI has offered a reward worth up to $15,000 for information that leads to the identification or arrest of the person or persons responsible for a series of church fires in El Paso, Texas, The New York Times reports.
According to law enforcement, on three separate occasions someone threw an “incendiary device” into three different Catholic churches in El Paso: St. Matthew Catholic Church on May 7, St. Patrick Cathedral on May 13 and San Judas Tadeo Catholic Church on June 15.
No one was inside the churches when the arsons occurred, and the buildings, aside from the rear pew area at San Judas Tadeo, did not suffer major damage. The three cases, which all occurred on the west side of the city, are still unsolved.
The FBI announced last Thursday that they are offering $5,000 to the public for “information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for these crimes. In total, a reward of $15,000 is now being offered.”
The Times notes that Fernando Ceniceros, a spokesperson for the Catholic Diocese of El Paso, said the church is offering a $5,000 reward of its own, “just so that we have a sense of closure, if you will. We want a resolution to this.”
