White evangelicals believe they face more discrimination than Muslims, The Atlantic reported.
Citing a recent poll by the Public Religion Research Institute, the magazine said 57 percent of white evangelical Protestants said there's a lot of discrimination against Christians in the U.S. By comparison, only 44 percent said the same thing about Muslims, the magazine noted.
"They were the only religious group more likely to believe Christians face discrimination compared to Muslims," The Atlantic said.
It noted several court rulings may have heightened white evangelicals' belief that Christians face discrimination.
One of those cases was the Supreme Court ruling legalizing same sex marriages.
Another case was a hit on religious freedom when the Washington State Supreme Court ruled against a Christian florist who did not want to provide services at a gay couple's wedding.
In that case, the court ruled florist Barronelle Stutzman broke the state anti-discrimination law, Fox News reported.
Stutzman had said she couldn't provide flowers because same-sex marriage was incompatible with her Christian beliefs, according to Fox.
The Atlantic noted white evangelicals appear to view discrimination differently than others.
"But the survey does suggest something remarkable: White evangelicals perceive discrimination in America in vastly different terms than all other religious groups, including their minority peers," the magazine said.
