President Donald Trump's recent comment that he can "do what he want[s] to do with the Justice Department" is "wrong" and "dangerous," according to former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
"I have absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department. But for purposes of hopefully thinking I'm going to be treated fairly, I've stayed uninvolved with this particular matter," Trump told The New York Times in an interview released Thursday, speaking of the ongoing investigation into Russian election interference.
The president also mentioned that it's "too bad" his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, recused himself from the probe, and compared him to Holder.
"I don't want to get into loyalty, but I will tell you that, I will say this: Holder protected President [Barack] Obama. Totally protected him," Trump said. "When you look at the things that they did, and Holder protected the president. And I have great respect for that, I'll be honest."
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, also blasted Trump for his remark.
