Former President Donald Trump appeared to keep alive the possibility of debating Vice President Kamala Harris on ABC.
Trump had agreed to oppose President Joe Biden in a Sept. 10 debate to be hosted by ABC News. The two men debated June 27 at CNN's Atlanta studio where the 81-year-old Biden's disastrous performance led to him being replaced by Harris as the Democrat nominee for president.
The Republican presidential nominee then said Friday that he wanted to debate Harris "with a full arena audience" on Sept. 4 with Fox News as the host.
The Harris campaign rejected the Fox News debate offer, and CNN this past weekend reported the vice president was making plans to appear for the Sept. 10 debate on ABC News even if Trump is a no-show.
Trump appeared Wednesday morning on Fox News and touched on the debates after criticizing Harris for not doing any interviews since she replaced Biden atop the Democratic Party's national ticket.
"She doesn't do interviews because she can't answer questions. I don't know how she debates. I heard she's sort of a nasty person, but not a good, good debater," Trump said.
"But we'll see because we'll be debating her, I guess, in the near future. It's going to be announced fairly soon, but we'll be debating her. I'd like to see it on Fox, by the way. I would like to see it. My preference would be Fox, but we have to do an announcement."
Trump previously said a debate hosted by ABC News would be a "conflict of interest" due to him being in litigation against the network and host George Stephanopoulos.
"Well, you could use that as an excuse," Trump said. "I could use that. I've said that. Is there a conflict? And, you know, that might be George Slopadopolus and he's got problems and, you know, they've got problems.
"But if they're going to have a, I guess David Muir is going to be the host in that case. … I'd love to see it on Fox, but, you know, it takes two to tango. Maybe, maybe you."
Trump said, "the most important thing is we get [to] debate."
"I think debates are very important. And I think she'll be exposed. Just like Biden was exposed," he said. "Nobody knew Biden was that bad. And then he was exposed during the debate, and they tried to have a series of comebacks after that, and they didn't work out too well."
