Sen. John McCain expressed bewilderment Thursday about President Donald Trump's recent embracing of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
"I do not understand the comment about the North Korean crazy dictator who is capable of cruelty that we can only imagine," the Arizona Republican told Anderson Cooper on CNN.
Trump last week invited Duterte to Washington – and he said that meeting Kim would be an "honor" under certain circumstances.
"It should not be an honor," McCain said. "In fact, I wouldn't sit down with either of them unless there was a tangible result that would come from it."
The senator added Duterte's terrorism of his country has expanded to include "practicing and legitimizing extrajudicial killings.
"If you countenance that kind of behavior, you countenance it in other countries as well," McCain told Cooper. "There has to be a price for them to pay in order to have a normal relationship."
