Several Democratic Senate candidates are celebrating endorsements from Reproductive Freedom for All, an advocacy group that promotes gender reassignment surgery for children, taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants and defunding the police.
Democratic contenders Janet Mills, of Maine, Chris Pappas, of New Hampshire, Roy Cooper, of North Carolina and Sherrod Brown, of Ohio, have each publicly praised endorsements from the organization, formerly known as NARAL Pro-Choice America.
Reproductive Freedom for All has built a record of pushing for progressive social policies well beyond abortion advocacy. The group has repeatedly attacked Republicans for supporting laws that protect minors from undergoing irreversible gender reassignment surgeries, which critics say is genital mutilation of children.
In a post from 2023 on X, the organization argued that "the fight for reproductive freedom includes fighting for gender-affirming care," and has pushed states to allow biological males to compete in women's sports.
It has also labeled abortion a "constitutional right" for illegal immigrants and consistently defended access to birth control and "reproductive care" for those in the country illegally, praising efforts to make birth control "more accessible" to illegal aliens.
In addition, Reproductive Freedom for All has embraced the radical "defund the police" movement, declaring in another post on X that it is "past time to defund the police" due to what it calls "generations of systemic racism, oppression, and state violence."
Despite this record, Democratic Senate candidates have not distanced themselves from the group — instead, they are publicly touting its support.
-- Mills said she was "honored" to receive the organization's endorsement and has accepted $5,000 in contributions.
-- Pappas said he was "grateful" for the endorsement. Since 2018, Pappas has taken $20,000 from the group.
-- Brown said he was "proud to have the support" of the organization. Since 1997, he has accepted $53,239 in contributions.
-- Cooper also embraced the endorsement, saying he was "deeply grateful" for the group's backing.
As Senate races intensify heading into next year, the endorsements underscore the policy alignment between the Democratic candidates and Reproductive Freedom for All on transgender policies, immigration-related abortion and birth control access and calls to cut police funding.
