House Democrats fired another shot in their war on the Select Investigative Panel established last year to probe fetal tissue research, calling on Speaker Paul Ryan to dissolve it, The Washington Post reports.

The special committee was set up after videos surfaced that supposedly show Planned Parenthood officials trying to profit illegally from the sale of fetal tissue.

All but two Democrats voted against the panel last October and the party has since continued to mount a campaign against it.

The new letter asks Ryan for a written response to their accusations that the committee is using McCarthy-type tactics by harassing and intimidating witnesses. The panel, which has held two public hearings, has issued subpoenas to abortion providers and others involved in fetal-tissue research.

The Daily Caller recently reported on how, for example, the panel demanded a broad and deep look at fetal harvesting firm StemExpress's accounting practices, including every banking statement it has ever produced along with a vast amount of other documents. The company has objected to the extensiveness of the requests.

Ryan has previously defended the committee, saying the congressmen are trying to protect infant lives.
