Nearly $20 million has been spent for extra Coast Guard patrols to protect President Donald Trump during 16 visits to his Mar-a-Lago resort in South Florida since he took office, USA Today is reporting.
The newspaper attributed its information to records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.
Each trip to the resort costs the Coast Guard more than $1 million, according to USA Today. The records show the Coast Guard assigns 29-foot rubber boats and 87-foot patrol boats with .50-caliber machine guns during those stays. In addition, a rescue helicopter near the property costs about $8,000 per flight hour.
And Coast Guard staff logged about 4,236 hours on the vessels and helicopter protecting the president during his visits to the resort, USA Today reported.
The records obtained by the newspaper account for all but one of the president’s trips to Mar-a-Lago resort.
According to USA Today, Trump has spent 69 days since his inauguration at Mar-a-Lago, 33 days at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey and 31 at Trump National in Sterling, Virginia.
Last year Judicial Watch announced that Trump’s flights aboard Air Force One for just two weekend trips to Mar-a-Lago cost nearly $1.3 million
