Hillary Clinton's campaign team decided against any reference to Israel in a speech to launch her campaign for fear of alienating their base of "Dem activists," The Washington Free Beacon reported.
"I'm w Joel (Benenson). We shouldn't have Israel at public events. Especially dem activists," Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook wrote.
The back and forth, outed online by WikiLeaks, took place in May 2015 as the team worked to construct Clinton's speech that would spell out her vision for her campaign.
Foreign policy adviser Jake Sullivan suggested adding "a sentence on standing up for our allies and values, including Israel and other fellow democracies."
But Sullivan was overruled; leave Israel out of public speeches.
"She can drop in Israel when she's with donors," speechwriter Dan Schwerin wrote.
