Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Monday that he is not interested in working in the Trump Administration, and that he has turned down multiple job offers from the president.
"I'm not one of these people who's desperate for a job. I think I turned down seven of them down," Christie told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” Monday morning. "I'm not desperate for a title. I'm not looking to run to Washington, D.C. What I'm looking to do is to make the country better and to help my friend."
Christie ran against President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination in 2016, but later endorsed Trump and led his transition team. He told CNBC that he thinks he can provide more help for the president and do more for the country outside of Trump’s administration.
“Sometimes that means telling him something he doesn’t want to hear,” he said. “And sometimes he takes it very well and he listens and takes it all in, and other times he tells me, ‘Didn’t I beat you?’”
He also said that the president “hasn’t offered me anything that I really wanted to do,”
"If there's something I really want to do and I think I bring real value to him and the country I'll step up and do it," Christie added. "I can certainly help him from where I am. And it's much better for my family if I stay where I am."
The former governor did say that Trump offered him the top posts at the Departments of Labor and Homeland Security, and the position of special assistant to the president, among others.
