U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Tuesday it has collected more than $200 billion in tariff revenue in 2025, a record-setting total the agency credits to trade policies and executive actions implemented by President Donald Trump's administration.
According to CBP, the revenue was collected Jan. 20 to Dec. 15, after the implementation of more than 40 executive orders related to trade enforcement. The agency said the milestone highlights its role in strengthening U.S. national and economic security by ensuring compliance with federal trade laws.
"CBP's enforcement delivers results," CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott said in a statement. "By combining intelligence-led targeting, rigorous oversight, and swift action, we are safeguarding the U.S. economy, protecting American industries, and holding accountable those who seek to break our trade laws."
CBP said the increase in tariff revenue stems from aggressive efforts to detect and stop tariff evasion, using advanced data analytics and trade monitoring systems. These tools allow investigators to identify schemes such as undervaluation, misclassification of goods, illegal transshipment, antidumping and countervailing duty violations, and the use of shell companies to avoid paying required duties.
The agency reported that during the same period it:
- Assessed approximately $2.6 billion in antidumping and countervailing duties designed to counter unfair trade practices, including selling goods below market value or subsidized exports.
- Uncovered new evasion schemes, including a case involving an importer of iron, steel, and aluminum that improperly claimed multiple tariff exemptions, depriving the government of an estimated $100 million.
- Issued 63 debarment actions against companies and individuals who failed to pay tariffs, taxes, and other fees owed to the federal government.
- Investigated nearly 1,200 revenue-focused e-Allegations submitted by members of the trade community to help maintain a level playing field for law-abiding U.S. businesses.
These enforcement actions are supported by the CBP trade processing infrastructure, including the Automated Commercial Environment, which tracks imports and enforces compliance in real time.
The agency also cited its Cargo Systems Messaging Service as a key tool for delivering timely guidance and updates to the trade community.
CBP said the record revenue collection reflects its broader mission to promote secure and fair trade while ensuring that U.S. laws are enforced consistently.
