President Donald Trump called the Bloomberg News organization "corrupt" as he ripped into its founder and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

Trump's comments were made in a Wednesday tweet, in which he again referred to the former mayor as "Mini Mike." The tweet came as Bloomberg prepared to debate his rivals for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination Wednesday evening.

Trump wrote: "Is corrupt Bloomberg News going to say what a pathetic debater Mini Mike is, that he doesn't respect our great farmers, or that he has violated campaign finance laws at the highest and most sinister level with 'payoffs' all over the place?"

Bloomberg News announced in November that it would not investigate Bloomberg or any of the other candidates during the Democrats' primaries.

Bloomberg News, a subsidiary of the former mayor's financial software company Bloomberg LP, said it will, however, summarize or publish investigative material on the candidate or his rivals that appear in other media outlets, as long as they are credible.

The candidate has come under criticism after comments he made in 2016 about farming, which he said required less "gray matter" than modern jobs.
