Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, who is challenging Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2020, said he would have looked to indict the president if he had the opportunity to do so.
Weld made his comments in a pair of Wednesday tweets.
He wrote: “AG (William) Barr has erred in both his opinion that the President could not be indicted and in his clear attempt to frame a narrative that favors and protects the President. “
And he added: “Given the evidence laid out by Mr. (Robert) Mueller, had I been in his place, I would have pursued an indictment of the President of the United States for obstruction of Justice.
The Hill noted Weld's tweets came after Weld had issued a statement saying the report by Mueller, the special counsel, “clearly laid out the case for multiple occasions of obstruction of justice by the president.” The tweets also came as Barr appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
