Rep. Waltz: Biden Can Solve Border — Be Like Trump

By    |   Tuesday, 20 December 2022 08:05 PM EST

President Joe Biden can easily get the United States-Mexico border situation back under control, Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla. tells Newsmax.

All Biden has to do is adopt former President Trump's policies for the southern border.

That's unlikely, considering Biden signed executive orders on his first day in office, reversing almost all of Trump's border policies.

The only one still in effect: Title 42, the policy which keeps illegal immigrants out of the U.S., based on the potential spread of COVID-19.

Title 42 was set to expire Wednesday until Chief Justice John Roberts placed a temporary hold on the measure.

The White House has blamed Republicans for the border problems, claiming GOP members of Congress won't work with them.

As such, "Spicer & Co." host Sean Spicer wondered if the Biden administration is trying to scapegoat the GOP with the border mess.

"Well, that's what the Biden White House is so good at," Waltz said. "They just blame everyone for everything instead of taking any responsibility."

Republicans have a plan outlined in the Commitment to America agenda that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy laid out before the midterms, said Waltz.

The bottom line, though, is "the sequencing," Waltz quipped.

"You have to secure the border first, before you can begin talking any other types of reforms, because otherwise two, three, four years from now you're going to find yourself right back in the same position," said Waltz.

That means the policies the Trump administration had in place in which Biden refuses to adopt, Waltz said, including the "Remain In Mexico" policy and resuming construction of the Trump border wall.

Biden also needs to beef up Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) while reforming asylum claims and holding the Mexican government accountable, Waltz added.

"We have video after video of the Mexican authorities basically putting these people on a bus at their southern border and shipping them all the way north to ours," said Waltz.

"Under President Trump, we had 25,000 Mexican National Guardsmen at their southern border, doing their job and enforcing their border rather than using as a pass-through. ... That's just a bunch of garbage from this White House," added Waltz.
