Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., issued a scathing rebuke of President Donald Trump's rejection of special counsel Robert Mueller testifying before Congress, telling the president: "You are not a dictator."
Sen. Sanders tweeted:
"Sorry, Mr. President, you are not a dictator. In our democracy, when Congress calls on Robert Mueller to testify, he will testify."
President Trump, after ridiculing Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee for their treatment of Attorney General William Barr, including accusations of perjury, tweeted Sunday that Mueller should not testify about the handling of the investigation of Russia's 2016 election meddling, if called before Congress.
Trump's call came via Twitter, to which Sen. Sanders responded in kind Monday, replying to his Sunday tweets.
Sen. Sanders is one of a slew of Democratic presidential primary candidates competing to take aim on the president in the 2020 election. He has become a constant opposition to President Trump's political positions, including ripping President Trump as a "profound scientist" over a claim wind turbines cause cancer.
