The latest polls taken in Arizona's 1st District showed six-term GOP Rep. David Schweikert in a dead heat with Democrat Amish Shah.
But Grand Canyon State Republicans who spoke to Newsmax insisted that as Donald Trump's lead grows in most polls, Schweikert will again win re-election.
Schweikert survived strong challenges in 2020 and 2022, winning with 50.1% and 52%, respectively.
A just-completed New York Times-Siena poll showed Trump leading Kamala Harris by 49% to 44% in Arizona.
Former State GOP Chair Randy Pullen told Newsmax: "I think this helps David Schweikert as we are gaining across the board."
Shah, a physician and former state legislator, gained ground last week when Schweikert skipped a televised debate.
The Democrat had a full half-hour to introduce himself to voters and slam Schweikert for their differences on the abortion issue. Schweikert is pro-life.
But Shah may have fumbled by not endorsing Proposition 314.
The controversial measure appears on the statewide ballot this November and would criminalize illegal migrant crossings at the border.
Schweikert strongly supports the measure, but Shah said he was "still looking at the measure."
A nonpartisan poll completed last month by Noble Predictive Insights showed that 63% of likely voters in Arizona supported Proposition 314 compared to just 16% against it.
Team Schweikert said they believe the issue will be key to his re-election.
