New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo changed his family's Thanksgiving plans after he was lambasted for planning to have the holiday dinner with his 89-year-old mother and two daughters, The Hill reports.

During a Monday radio interview, Cuomo told WAMC about his plans to host his mother and two daughters. Soon after, people slammed the governor on social media for not listening to advice he gave to New Yorkers to avoid gatherings to stop the spread of the virus. A spokesperson told The Hill, Cuomo's plans for the holiday have changed.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., tweeted:

"His arrogance and hypocrisy knows no bounds. Do as I say, not as I do."

Cuomo tweeted Monday his daughter will not be attending Thanksgiving dinner because she is "out of state and it's safer not to travel."

A spokesperson for the governor's office told The New York Times that Cuomo's comment on the radio was made as a fib that was couched by his on air statement of "plans change."

"Given the current circumstances with COVID, he will have to work through Thanksgiving and will not be seeing them," said Richard Azzopardi, a senior adviser to the governor.
